Taking action against preventable disability
IMPACT improves community health and works to prevent and reverse unnecessary disabilities with simple, effective tools. We operate in hard-to-reach areas of developing countries where people live in poverty without access to even basic health care. Some of our initiatives focus specifically on prevention, such as organized women’s groups and nutrition programs.
Of the one billion disabled people living with disabilities worldwide, 80 % of those reside in impoverished countries. Research shows that more than half of these disabilities could have been prevented with adequate health care. IMPACT’s goal is to ensure that no one suffers from preventable disabilities caused by disease, lack of knowledge, or limited medical services and resources.
Mobile Clinics & Hospitals, Women’s Groups and Nutrition
To reach remote and almost inaccessible rural areas, IMPACT has developed mobile solutions such as floating hospitals, a hospital train and 4WD vehicles equipped with surgical tents. These units perform simple operations that restore sight, hearing, and mobility to people who have become needlessly disabled.
